Light Well

An interior organized around daylight.

Light Well studies how a single opening can reorganize an interior. A double-height room is placed beneath a large skylight, bringing daylight to the center of an imagined urban home. Circulation follows its edges, allowing the shared room to remain open and uninterrupted.

Travertine gives the lower level a continuous mineral surface while oak brings warmth to the rooms above. A broad stair becomes a place to sit as well as a means of movement. Throughout the day, the changing position of light gives structure to an otherwise restrained material palette.
